Fox Gets Heat for "Racist" Statement - Is He Really Guilty as Charged?

Mexico's President, Mr. Vicente Fox, has gotten some heat over a statement he made.

In an attempt to highlight the value of Mexican workers in the U.S., he only ended up sparking controversy when he stated that Mexicans are willing to accept jobs that "not even the Blacks" want.

Current Status

Civil rights leaders were quick to respond, labeling his statement racist and demanding public apologies.

What's at Stake?

What's important for other groups to understand is that this statement does not stand alone in its effect on the psyche of African-Americans. Instead, this statement - terribly careless and hurtful - is received as yet one more lashing in a long history of public offenses made against African-Americans. A painful, ongoing reminder that the lower rung of society is where Blacks are considered, and expected, to reside.
